Selling Sickness explores the unhealthy relationships between society, medical science and the pharmaceutical industry as they promote their new miracle cures -- selling not just drugs but also the latest diseases that go with them. It examines the growing global controversy around SSRI antidepressant, such as Paxil, Zoloft, and Prozac, and also takes a personal look at two families who suffer the tragic consequences of society's rush to find a pill for every ill. is this aggressive drug marketing not just changing humans but the human condition as well? Money Talks: Profits before Patient Safety uses first hand testimony from doctors and drug reps to give a rare perspective on the questionable marketing tactics of the pharmaceutical industry. Engaging and informative, the film offers a reasoned approach to the subject matter, with guests like Dr. John Abramson, author of Overdosed America, and Prescription Access Litigation Project Director, Alex Sugerman-Brozan.

I don't think it's the pharmaceutical company doing anything wrong. The drugs help, there are just too many success stories. As for coming off them, I went of Lexapro and Wellbutrin cold turkey with almost no side effects. An occasional dizziness for a 3-4 days and I got over it. I don't think the problem is marketing. I think it's people being big fat babies A. for taking them for having a few bad days, and B. for not sucking it up and getting over yourself.
If these are real health problems, why are they not diagnosed with an actual chemical exam, which is to say, why is there no definitive measure of the monoamines in the brain (e.g. serotonin) performed by medical doctors?
you can never tell if your symptoms wouldn't have improved if you took a placebo. Besides, the people in this video aren't saying SSRI's don't work, they sure do! The problem these people adress is that the farmaceutical companies try to make you think you are sick/depressed, whilst maybe you are just having a bad day. It's called medicalization. Wikipedia: Medicalization
Yes thats normal for drugs like paxil... it should only be taken under the direct care of a physician, DO NOT suddenly stop taking this medication with out first talking to your doctor as serious side effects may occur. Most of the time it takes several weeks or even a few months to get off this medication depending on what dose your at and how long. I would go down -10MG every 2-3 weeks to get off of it. But I'm not a doctor... I just know that most people go down very slowly.
Latyona07, you could try 5-HTP or S-AME, which are available from vitamin companies, also sold in many health food stores, much cheaper and don't have the horrid side effects.
I'm suspicious about your addiction. It might be that you're just conditioned to believe you need zoloft. You owe it to yourself to get off zoloft. It and similar drugs are only meant for the short term, 3 months max.
Well this is probably too late for you but there's a great site called Paxil Progress for help in withdrawing from the drug. The bottom line is: you must wean yourself off Paxil very slowly; only a 10% drop every 3-6 months at the most. Many people have had this experience and the majority agree that the slow way is the best way.
Hi im in the U.K and have been taking paroxetine (paxil) for a few months. I started to feel better and thought i didnt need it anymore....im currently on day 6 of withdrawal and have never felt so sick in my life!....the electric shock sensations im having in my body when i move my head or eyes is awful if anyone can help me please get in touch
Yes that's true but there are people who suffer from SERIOUS panic disorders and anxiety attacks that prevent them from living their lives normally. What do you suggest for them?
